O Brother, Where Art Thou? is a 2000 adventure film written, produced, and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, and starring George Clooney, John Turturro, and Tim Blake Nelson. Set in 1937 rural Mississippi during the Great Depression, Three convicts escape from a chain gang and set out to retrieve a supposed treasure buried before the area is flooded to make a lake. The film's story is a modern satire loosely based on Homer's epic poem, Odyssey. Much of the music used in the film is period folk music including that of Virginia bluegrass singer Ralph Stanley.
