Men on Shore St - c1907???

"Murda, Jimmy Potchack, Popenny, Lairdie and Boaks"

Garve says "I think this pic is taken on Shore St and that the house with the crowstepped gable is Russel House. If so, then the gable in the background must be the Shore Inn which was knocked down around the 1950s."

Popenny was my great grandfather, Donald Watson, who lived in Big Vennel. He'd broken his leg, hence the crutch. He was called Popenny because he was always speaking about the Pope (probably miscalling him!)

Yes, it is taken on Shore Street, the cottage behind is now called Shore Inn Cottage. The front door was altered to a window in the mid 1960's when my father bought it. I am surprised that the roof was thatched as late as 1907.
