Aerial shot of the School - c1950???
This pic shows a fire damaged building where the current supermarket is, and a temporary building in the field behind it. Note also the haystacks by the dairy.
What was the temporary building and can you pinpoint the year?

Yes Sue, I remember it quite clearly. Also fire gutted a flat above the Post office where one of the local police I knew lived with his wife.
Cromarty has had it's share of fires - my parents shop in High Street had a bad fire in the sixties - although they managed to renovate and re-open.

The butcher's shop and the post office were in the burnt out building. Moore was the name of the butcher, and he was from Rosemarkie, and he took it over from Grant the tailor.

I think this photo was more recent than the 1950's 'cos I was working in the county architect's office in Dingwall, where the new house to the right of the existing school house was designed for the head-master. Architect was a Mr Murray Crighton. This would make the photo circa 1965/66.

I left Dingwall in 1963 and I can't remember working on that project so I would suspect the earlier date is correct.

On a re-read of the above text, maybe memory does fade, but I always remember the office joke about the 'Conteen' houseen!!
