What year did Cromarty house have servants?
Added by Amber on 15 March 2007.
I'm sure that, at one time, Cromarty House employed servants for a number of years.
I do remember hearing that my late uncle, Davie McLeman, was 'boots' there. I am guessing that would have in the 1920s or 30s.
If you know my Uncle Dod and Aunt Jean McLeman, do ask them if they have more information.

Was Cromarty House built on the site of Cromarty Castle which I have read about in certain books of the area.
Added by William Long on 16 March 2007.
The site of Cromarty Castle was - I understand - to the rear and east of the present house. So that would be to the right and to the rear of the house in this photo.

Amber my dad work at Cromarty House in 1937 and he had to keep the drive from the House to the Lodge gates clear of all leaves etc so as not to upset Lady Ross as she passed through in her carriage. He also had to run and open the gates and lift his cap as she passed. Can you imagine how difficult that must have been especially in the autumn?
